Can't Sleep? Redecorate Your Bedroom

I have always had trouble falling asleep for no good reason. One thing I noticed while on a trip out of town one day was that I slept great at the hotel. I tried to think of why this occurred, and the main things that stuck out to me were that the hotel room was clutter-free and I loved the decor. I decided to redecorate my bedroom not to perfectly match the hotel room, but to organize the clutter and create a room that I just loved. It helped, and instead of dreading bedtime, I began to look forward to entering my beautiful oasis I created for myself. I started sleeping like a baby. I created this blog to encourage you to look into redecorating your bedroom in you have sleeping troubles. It worked for me.

Brighten Up Any Room With Simple Design Tricks

If you have rooms in your home that no one wants to hang out in simply because they are dark and cramped, you don't have to simply shut the door. Bring these rooms to life and make them more engaging by changing up a few designs in these otherwise uninviting spaces.

Open up the windows for natural lighting

If a dark area in your home has a window, open it up with sheer window treatments in a bright or pastel shade to allow natural sunlight in the room. Dark drapes and long bulky materials can make a small or dull room feel overpowered, and lightening up on the window treatments can help a great deal. Choose a soft gauzy material to drape over the top of the curtain rod to add a sense of dimension in a smaller window. Great color schemes for curtains include:

  • pearlized white and violet
  • light grays and beige
  • rose pink and white
  • mint green and light silver

Pull these window decorations back to allow natural sunlight in, and these rooms can instantly feel brighter and more welcoming.

Vinyl flooring

You can brighten up a living area that is too dark by changing to vinyl flooring in an off-white marble or granite design. Vinyl is easy to install, and fun to decorate around. Add an area rug with a tan or creamy background, emblazoned with floral or geometric designs to give this room more depth and personality. A shag rug is great if you have a fireplace and want a cozy spot to lay down with a favorite book.

Add metallic faux finishing

Faux finishes are an easy way to give your walls a new sense of life. These finishes give your home a modern, rustic, or contemporary appeal, using a simple painting technique to make your current paint really stand out. A metallic faux finish is beautiful in a dining room, reading area, or even your home office to give it the subtle blast of brightness it needs. You can choose a finish in multiple styles:

  • smooth
  • brushed
  • textured

Speak to a home interior designer to see which design would work best in your space, or visit your local home supply store to view examples of the many faux finishes you can accomplish in metallic tones.
